Day 1 - Cape Town

First we must experience the buzz of the Mother City, Cape Town. We discover and shoot some of the land-marks, but also look beyond, into it’s history and human thread, because it is the people of Cape Town that bring the spectacular landscapes and storied history together to define this amazing city.  Day 1 is a gentle day, with a midday pick-up and introduction before setting into our Cape Town accommodation and an afternoon photo-walk on the beach at Clifton and Camps Bay. We head towards the iconic V&A Waterfront for a sunset and twilight photography session before enjoying our first dinner together.

Day 2 - Cape Town

Our second day in the fabulous Mother City starts with an optional sunrise session at a vantage point above the city bowl (for those that want to) before breakfast. After breakfast we head to District 6 and the Bo-Kaap to capture some imagery at these two vibrant and historically significant Cape Town communities with a coffee break at Truth Coffee (voted the world’s best coffee shop by the The Daily Telegraph 2 years in a row) in-between. We then head south. With Boulders Beach and the Penguin Colony as our destination, we stop en-route at Groot Constantia for lunch and at Muizenberg and Kalk Bay for short photography sessions. Once we are done with the penguins, and the sun is beginning to dip into the horizon we head towards our sunset and twilight shoot location on the legendary Chapmans Peak Drive. We capture epic mountain and ocean scenes here as the sky darkens, and then head back to the city for dinner and some rest.

Day 3 - Cape Town to Arniston

After a sunrise session on Clifton Beach we grab a breakfast in trendy Mouille Point before leaving the big city buzz behind. Heading east out of Cape Town we thread our way (hopefully accompanied by whale song and sightings) along the Southern Atlantic Coast, through the Overberg (after a stop for lunch and a cliff-side photowalk in Hermanus) and past the Southern Tip of Africa towards Arniston, a traditional Cape Fishing Village. Here the story of the sea is en- twined with the story of it’s people. Our accomodation in Arniston is the legendary Arniston Hotel and Spa. Highlights here include the incredible scenery on the back country roads and a moody dusk shooting the fishing village and harbor area.

Day 4 - Arniston to Wilderness (Garden Route)

We now leave Arniston and The Overberg behind as we head further east towards the Garden Route. Day 4 starts with a sunrise shooting session on the cliff-paths and dunes for those that want an early start. After breakfast we hit the road towards Mosselbay via the epic hand drawn pont river crossing at Malgas (weather and time permitting). We lunch in Mosselbay Harbor, drop in at the Museum and historic Post Office Tree and then continue on our way to our Garden Route accommodation in Wilderness. Once checked in you can enjoy some free time exploring the village of Wilderness or relaxing on the beach before heading out for a sunset shooting session on the Serpentine River. We dine together in the village after our sunset shoot before heading back to our accommodation for the night.

Day 5 - Wilderness (Garden Route)

We rise early for an optional sunrise session on day 5, this time in a deep and scenic river gorge at Kaaimans. After breakfast those that wish to may hire a canoe and paddle (or hike) a short distance to a beautiful waterfall in the area. Those that want a more leisurely morning may choose to rest at the accommodation, stroll through the village or walk on the beach. We enjoy an early lunch in the Village and then head out towards Knysna on the 7 Passes road, stopping frequently to shoot some of the scenic spots en route. Our last stop on the this road is near Knysna at Jubilee Creek, deep in the indigenous forest. Here the forest is ancient, and a stream leads to a beautiful forest waterfall. After our forest experience, we head to Knysna and some free time at the  popular waterfront and small boat harbor before boarding a sailing yacht for a sundown sail on the lagoon and out the famous Knysna Heads if weather and tide permit. We then dine in Knysna before heading back to our accommodation for the evening.

Day 6 - Wilderness to Prince Albert

We yet again start with an optional sunrise shooting session for those that dont want to sleep a little later. After breakfast we hit the road inland, over the majestic Outeniqua mountains toward the magical Little Karoo and the town of De Rust where we will take a stroll around and have lunch. The journey is incredibly scenic, and time is built into the itinerary for many stops, to shoot scenic views and sample roadside farm stalls. After lunch in the tiny Karoo “dorpie” of De Rust we head towards Prince Albert, nestled on the northern slopes of the majestic Swartberg Mountain Range. This “boutique” Karoo town is incredibly scenic and very popular with local artists and artisans. Once we have checked into our accommodation you will have time to explore the town, boutiques and galleries before heading out to shoot some incredible landscape imagery on the lower slopes of the Swartberg Mountain Range.

Day 7 - Prince Albert (Karoo)

Although optional our sunrise session on this morning will be spectacular – the Karoo is always is. We might spend a little longer out for this session than normal due to the incredible landscapes on offer, but then head back for a lazy breakfast and morning. Around mid-morning we head out to a local farm to explore their labyrinth walk and shoot some farm landscapes. Lunch is a casual affair in the village, with free time again on the cards for exploring the village or relaxing. In the afternoon we either join a local guide for a history and ghost walk of the town, or explore the surrounding area’s further capturing landscapes, depending on how you feel. Dinner at the legendary Karoo Kombuis will be booked for one of our evenings in Prince Albert.

Day 8 - Prince Albert to Barrydale

We start the day with an early breakfast and depart soon afterwards, so as to capture the legendary Swartberg Pass in the best early morning light en-route. Once over the pass we stop at the iconic Cango Caves and enjoy a guided tour into the ancient subterranean complex. We then join route 62 and head toward Barrydale, stopping frequently to enjoy (and capture) the views and visit farm-stalls and the picturesque towns along this popular route. We visit Ronnies “Sex” Shop for lunch and stop for a dip in some nearby natural hot water springs before arriving in the little town of Barrydale and checking into our guest house. We take a late afternoon trip up the Tradouw Pass in the late afternoon for a quick photography session, or if you prefer, just relax at the guest house or explore the town. We enjoy dinner in the Village before retiring for the evening.

Day 9 - Barrydale to Franschhoek

After an optional sunrise session in the nearby hills we enjoy breaksfast at our accommodation and then head out of Barrydale towards Franschhoek and the Cape Winelands via Villiersdorp. We stop frequently on this spectacular journey to capture the views.  Once checked into our accommodation in Franschhoek you will have the option of exploring Franschhoek in the afternoon or accompanying me to the Huguenot Monument for a photo-walk. We take a drive up the scenic Franschhoek Pass towards Villiersdorp in the late afternoon to capture some sunset and twilight landscapes. We return to Franschhoek for dinner.

Day 10 - Franschhoek and Cape Town

We again start the day with an optional sunrise session, this time from the Robertsvlei Road looking down over Franschhoek and the mountains beyond. We return to the accommodation for breakfast and then head out to the local township of  Groendal where we meet up with a local guide who shows around the vibrant township. We go from serious 3rd world scenes to proper 1st world luxury when we leave Groendal and head to Babylonstoren for lunch and a visit to this renown Wine Estate. We visit the very graphic Taal Monument (Language Monument) in Paarl after lunch where the organic shapes and structures make for a fun photo-walk. Our last stop en route back to Cape Town is at Bloubergstrand where we have the opportunity of capturing the iconic Table Mountain from it’s most favorable vantage point. This brings us to the end of the tour and we say goodbye in Cape Town.

Your Guide

I am a professional photographer and a registered tour-guide. I have shot just about everything under the sun (and moon) – all in (what I hope) is a unique reportage style. I love capturing landscapes and moments from my own viewpoint, as they unfold, rather than scenes that need manipulating or styling. I am also a very relaxed and easy going guy, love the color yellow best and dont like apples. Give me a shout if you would like to chat, I am available for skype consultations should you wish to break the ice before booking a tour. Give me a shout at +27(0)715576400 or mail me at
