The Ultimate Cape Photography Tour

Meet the Cape Photography Tour to end all Cape Photography Tours. Let me show you some of the most special places in the Cape, and let’s discover some new ones together. Starting in Cape Town we get down with the big city vibes like only the Mother Cape can deliver. Once we have had our fill we follow the coastline, chase whales and the ultimate ocean imagery till we find ourselves in the traditional fishing village of Arniston. Arniston delivers authentic visual flavors and a strand of human to the ocean narrative. Heading east, we reach the Garden Route and take in this place of water as we go deep into the ancient forests. After floating through the world famous heads our journey turns north into the desert and peaks of the Little Karoo. The Karoo is ancient, and vast, a place of forever landscapes and endless sky. We take our leave of the Karoo before you fall completely into it’s spell, and head toward the world famous Cape Winelands, after taking a decadent detour to capture the essential big 5, in 5 star style at Sanbona.

Your Guide and Photographer

I am a professional photographer and a registered tour-guide. I have shot just about everything under the sun (and moon) – all in (what I hope) is a unique reportage style. I love capturing landscapes and moments from my own viewpoint, as they unfold, rather than scenes that need manipulating or styling. I am also a very relaxed and easy going guy, with a beard, love the color yellow best and dont eat apples. Give me a shout if you would like to chat, I am available for skype consultations should you wish to break the ice before booking the ultimate cape photography tour. Give me a shout at +27(0)715576400 or mail me at alfred@alfredlor.com

We Start in Cape Town
photography tour

Cape Town – 2 Nights in a Luxury Villa on the Atlantic Seaboard

First we must experience the buzz of the Mother City, Cape Town. We discover and shoot some of the land- marks, but also look beyond, into it’s history and human thread, because it is the people of Cape Town that bring the spectacular landscapes and storied history together to define this amazing city. We stay in a luxury villa on the Atlantic Seaboard while in Cape Town. Highlights include twilight Waterfront scenes, a City Bowl sunrise, the past and present in District 6, lunch at the oldest wine estate in Cape Town, the Deep South, Penguins at Boulders Beach and Cliff top views over the rolling Atlantic towards Hout Bay on Chapmans Peak Drive.

Next Stop - Arniston

Arniston and The Overberg – 1 Night in Arniston

After a sunrise session on Clifton Beach we grab a breakfast in trendy Mouille Point before leaving the big city buzz behind. Heading east out of Cape Town we thread our way (hopefully accompanied by whale song and sightings) along the Southern Atlantic Coast, through the Overberg (after a stop for lunch and a township tour in Hermanus) and past the Southern Tip of Africa towards Arniston, a traditional Cape Fishing Village. Here the story of the sea is en- twined with the story of it’s people. Our accomodation in Arniston is the legendary Arniston Hotel and Spa. Highlights here include the incredible scenery on the back country roads and a moody dusk shooting the fishing village and harbour area.

Next Stop - Knysna

Knysna and The Garden Route – 2 Nights in a Luxury Villa

We now leave Arniston and The Overberg behind as we head further east towards the Garden Route. Here we will experience the deep dark cool of ancient indigenous forests as well as a sunset voyage on a sailing boat be- tween the Famous Knysna Heads and out onto the Indian Ocean. We call a luxury villa home for the two days we spend in the Garden Route town of Knysna. Highlights include a visit to the ancient indigenous forest at Jubilee Creek (where elephants still secretly roam) and a trip through the world famous Knysna Heads on a sailing yacht where we might see dolphins or even whales as the sun slips into the Indian Ocean. We also explore Noetzie Beach surrounded as it is by castles in the sand and take in Thesen Island.

Next Stop - The Karoo

Prince Albert and The Karoo – 2 Nights in a Luxury Villa

We head inland after exploring the Garden Route, winding our way over the Langeberg and Swartberg Mountains to fall in love with the Karoo in the quintessential “dorpie” of Prince Albert. When we aren’t being mesmorised by the astounding open spaces and forever landscapes, we will photograph and explore one of the most notorious mountain passes in Africa as well as the the famous Cango Caves. Other highlights include a labrynth walk, a guided walking tour of historic Prince Albert and it’s Ghosts as well as dinner at a typical Karoo country kitchen. Our accommodation for this part of our journey is in a luxurious villa.

Next Stop - Sanbona Luxury Safari Experience

Sanbona – 2 Nights in a Luxury Safari Camp

At the foot of the towering Warmwaterberg Mountains, Sanbona boasts 58, 000 hectares of sculpted Cape Fold Mountains, wide-open Karoo plains, indigenous flora and fauna and rare examples of San rock art, some dating back more than 3, 500 years, plus a unique boat safari. More than a Big 5 wilderness reserve, it’s the vastness of the landscape, the alluring stillness and isolation amid raw beauty and boundless plains that make Sanbona unique. Our accommodation in Sanbona is fully five star and truly one of the highlights of the Cape Photography Tour. Activities for our stay at Sanbona include capturing the wildlife in the best possible light during morning and afternoon game drives with experienced guides, night-scape and star trail shooting as well as lots of rest and relaxation.

Next Stop - The Cape Wine Lands

The Cape Winelands – 2 Nights in a Luxury Villa

As we leave the Karoo after our luxury safari experience we head west, towards the Cape Winelands, our final stop on this Cape Photography Tour. Our Visit to the Winelands will include extraordinary epicurean delights for the body, a little history and culture for the mind and lush valleys, soaring peaks and endless vista’s for the glass. We call another luxury villa home while in The Winelands and will shoot a combination of astonishing landscapes and architectural details in the historic towns of the area and also at the iconic Huguenot Monument. Time will also be spent exploring the vibrant town of Franschhoek and visiting an eclectic mix of Wine Estates. On the evening of the 11th night we celebrate sights seen and captured, friends made, and Africa in general as we prepare to head back to Cape Town.
